Minot Parks to host Back to School Bash

Minot Parks invites families to celebrate the end of summer at the annual Back to School Bash on Thursday, Aug. 6, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. This year's Back to School Bash will be held at the North Hill Sertoma Complex, rather than its traditional location on the east end of the South Hill SCHEELS Complex. The temporary location change is due to the ongoing construction associated with the installation of the new inclusive playground at the SCHEELS Complex. BISMARCK – The North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality has issued a harmful algal bloom advisory for Lake Tschida in Grant County, bringing the number of state waterbodies under an active advisory or warning to seven. Harmful algal blooms, also called HABs or blue-green algae, can develop quickly in warm, sunny weather. Some blooms produce cyanotoxins that can make people, pets and livestock sick if the water is swallowed or touched. An advisory means a bloom is present in portions of the waterbody. Steve Kottsick has been the course professional at Souris Valley Golf Course for 50 years, and on Monday, August 3, Minot Parks will celebrate his half-century of dedication to the city and to the sport of golf. The celebration will double as a Kottsick's 75th birthday celebration and will be held at Souris Valley Golf Course beginning at 1 p.m. Free lunch will be sponsored by Minot Junior Golf Association.
