Local woman keeps passion for art alive in Minot area

Submitted Photo Stephanie Grondahl and her husband Kyle Grondahl are shown at an International Dairy, Deli, and Bakery Association event in Anaheim, Calif., this past June.

A Minot woman is touching the hearts of her friends with her passion for art.

Stephanie Grondahl is talented in many ways, from cake decorating to crocheting and painting. She puts her heart and soul into every project she does.

“She’s so talented,” said Suanne Galloway, a friend of Grondahl. “What really stood out to me about her is that she can do so many different things and immediately be awesome at them. And she’s a genuinely kind person.”

Grondahl was born and raised in Japan before moving to Minot in the seventh grade.

She said she has always enjoyed art from a young age.

“It’s just something I’ve always been passionate about and it’s always taken up my free time. It’s one of those hobbies that I can’t quite let go of,” Grondahl said.

Grondahl works on all kinds of projects, whether it be decorating a cake for a friend’s birthday or painting her own fence in the backyard.

“My fences in the backyard did not look so great, so I ended up turning them into different murals. I have been having a really great time going out to the backyard and getting into my head, listening to a podcast and working on a painting,” Grondahl said.

Grondahl said she appreciates being able to work by herself and watch the process of a project come to life from start to finish.

“I like watching what I do evolve and grow into a finished piece. It’s really exciting for me to go from this ugly fence panel in my backyard to a work of art,” Grondahl said.

Grondahl also picked up crocheting this past July. She had no prior knowledge of crocheting but learned fast.

“Whenever I have some free time I put on Netflix or a podcast and crochet almost everyday now,” she said.

Grondahl does not have any set goals or destinations with her art. It’s mostly just for fun. However, she does want to finish her fence mural by next summer.

“I think I have seven or eight panels left, so I’m going to try to finish that first,” she said.

“As far as big lofty goals, I don’t have any. I just enjoy doing everything in my own time and not having to worry about working for anybody else, and I enjoy getting to do it in my own space.” Grondahl said.
