to order at 5:00 pm. Board

December 11, 2019 regular meeting.
Roll call vote, all yes. Business
Manager’s Report: The financial re-
ports were presented. The business
manager discussed the high water
bill. Tim thinks there might be a wa-
ter leak underground. We won’t be
able to verify that until spring.
M/S/C Munos/Wald to approve
financial reports as presented and
approve payment of December pay-
roll & benefits in the amount of $
398,870.81. December board bills:
General Fund-$ 16,285.28; Activity
Fund -$ 1,060.70; Food – $
10,837.25. Prepaid Check Register:
General Fund – $ 6,150.81; Activity
Fund-$ 6,193.70. Roll call vote, all
yes. Mrs Hansen: Gearing up for
Kindergarten will start January 16th
and run for 8 weeks. Usually there
are between 12 to 15 people signed
up. Mr Gerding: Mr Gerding is look-
ing into a 4 day school week. From
the research he has done already it
improves staff/student morale,
teacher retention and there is some
financial benefit as well. He would
like to know if the board is interested
in pursuing the issue before, he
gathers more information. The
school day would run from 8:05 to
3:35 with one hour class periods.
Professional development days
would be once a month on a Friday.
This would have no affect on sports.
The board would like Mr Gerding &
Mrs Hansen to look further into the
idea. Unfinished Business: School
Vision Committee: Mr Voiles & Ron
Aberle are assigned to form this
committee. They will possibly look
at having something at
parent/teacher conferences to get
parent involvement. Culture Im-
provement Committee: Taylor Feller
is still gathering information for this
committee. Budget Cuts: Nicole
shared information on the use of
special reserve funds. Mr Voiles
and Ron Aberle will contact Amy
DeKok. New Business: Superin-
tendent Search: With Mr Voiles re-
tirement at the end of this school
year the board needs to look at the
best way to move forward. Could
we have a supt/principal combo si-
tuation? Could we have a Dean of
Students to handle discipline issues.
The board would like the principals
to create their job descriptions. The
next regular board meeting will be

Amy Ralph relayed messages from
parents who had children involved in
Running Club about the benefits that
a cross country team would bring. A

the minutes of the previous meeting
as presented. Motion carried. A mo-
tion was made by Buri and second-
ed by Schaefer to accept the Activity
report as of 12-31-19 as presented.

to accept the financial reports for the
General fund, the Building fund and
the Hot Lunch fund as presented.

ried. Cross country team discussion.
We requested that a running club
be started to see what the interest of
athletes would be. They have been
involved with the running club for
two years. Athlete may only be in-
volved in one sport in the fall. A mo-
tion was made by Buri and second-
ed by Schaefer to approve starting a
cross country team for the fall of
2020. Motion carried. Discussion on
what to do with the parking lots this
summer. Board would like to do the
full lot on the east side and not do it
in phases. We will get quotes to
pave the full lot for the February
meeting. We will have to look at the
track in the future. Principal report:
Mrs. Kranz: We purchased drums
for $4300 with our Music Grant
funds. Grades 4-6th had their
Christmas concert on Monday, De-
cember 16th and several 6th grade
students served hot chocolate and
cookies with free-will donations go-
ing to the Burlington food pantry.
2nd quarter AR parties were held the
week before Christmas break. Stu-
dents named December Star Lakers
for Responsibility (1 per grade)
Brooklyn Q, Claire U., Kinley B.,
Kesley M., Jayden W., Divinity D.,
and Mycah F. Big buddies/little bud-
dies made gingerbread houses. Stu-
dents in grades 4-6 will participate in
the school level Geography Bee on
January 17th. Mr. Brown: Field
trips the junior high took before
Christmas break went well along
with taking the semester exams for
the first time. Started the new 3rd
quarter rotations for junior high. Mr.
Medalen: Semester exams went
well, report cards sent home and
discussed January 15th early out.
We will post the job for Cross Coun-
try coach in staff first and then open
to public if no interest. E-sports has
been building steam with schools
around the state. Update on all
winter sports. Superintendent report:
Discussed enrollment figures, proto-
col on storm days, change in format
of the professional development
days through the REA and February
7th Negotiations Seminar. Mr.
Bachmeier and Brenda Buri will at-
tend. Presented two calendars for
consideration for 2020-2021 school
year. Will decide in February. Put-
ting in more temporary handicap
parking spots for athletic events.

meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Jim
Perras, Consolidated Construction
told the board that our building pro-
ject earned a Gold Award- ABC
Award of Distinction. Discussed last
few items that need to be addressed
with punch list and solutions for
parking lot. A motion was made by
Sundsbak and seconded by
Schaefer to approve and finalize the
new GMP for the building project.
Motion carried. Jim said that CCC
would pay $8150 to cut near the
concrete and to dispose of the ma-
terial to help with parking lot issues.

prove the minutes of the previous
meeting as presented. Motion car-

Motion carried. Mandy Smith came
to discuss getting school approval to
start a Trap Shooting Team. Tim
Smith would be the coach. There
would be no cost to the school, team
would travel on their own and prac-
tice twice a week at a gun club that
would host them. Season is April
through June, have a team of 5 sixth
through twelfth graders. May not
have any weapons or ammunition
on school grounds. A motion was
made by Sundsbak and seconded
by Schaefer to agree to starting a
trap shooting team and allowing
them to use our school name. Mo-
tion carried. Principal report: Bur-
lington- Mrs. Andersen presented in-
formation on Music programs, movie
party in November, final day of
Breakfast Buddies with 179 adults
visiting the building to have break-
fast with a student. NDSU Exten-
sion Office spent November 26th do-
ing coding activities with the fourth
and fifth grade students. Preschool
screening was on December 4th.
Mrs. Schiele and her FACS students
spent December 6th interacting with
the elementary students. Teacher
evaluations are almost completed
for teachers that have been in build-
ing three years or less. CPAA test-
ing is being done week of December
9th. Sixth graders are going carol-
ing, to Planet Pizza and skating, De-
cember 13th. Mr. J. Brown: Finish-
ing up teacher evaluations in Des
Lacs. The seventh and eighth
graders will be caroling, going to
Planet Pizza and skating December
13th. Have chosen three students
from the seventh and eighth grades
to attend the Spelling Bee in Minot.
The junior high students are nervous
about taking semester exams for the
first time. Mr. Medalen: Fall Choir
Tea was on November 17th and
Band and Choir concert was on No-
vember 19th. Hannah Bonness or-
ganized a very successful blood
drive on November 25th. Mrs.
Schaefer attended student council
convention with Chloe and Brooklyn.
Next week we will be playing a dou-
ble header for GBB and BBB with
Bottineau. Superintendent Report:
Enrollment figures- 383 in elementa-
ry and 297 in high school. Final tax-
able valuation figures are out. Re-
view audit report for 18-19 school
year. Hired Stacy Hansen in Bur-
lington kitchen. Aesop substitute
system is going well for the district.
Wrestling Boosters would like to put
up a sign for records in the new
gym. Students have been getting
ready for semester exams and
checking the list to see who has
privileges. Next board meeting
