Girls Wrestling: Depth leads Minot United over Mandan

They didn’t have to do a lot of wrestling due to their advantage in roster size, but when they had to, they won.

The Minot United girls wrestling team earned 42 points via forfeit and won four of five matches to cruise past Mandan, 60-17, in a WDA dual on Thursday, Jan. 15, in Mandan.

Ella Brown, Monica Boakye, Khylie Schlotz and Aaliyah Laboy all won via pins for Minot United (2-2 overall, 2-1 WDA). The team secured points via forfeit a 100, 124, 136, 142, 148 and 155 pounds.

Brown, Schlotz and Laboy all ended their matches in the first round, with Schlotz pinning Aunna Weigel in 54 seconds at 118. Boakye earned her pin early in the final round, getting the six points for her squad against Lela Bellon in 4:26.

Mandan’s lone win came at 190 pounds with Alexis Storsved winning via technical fall 21-6. The Braves (0-9, 0-6) received 12 points from forfeits at 170 and 250.

Minot United wrestles Jamestown next on Thursday, Jan. 22, at 5 p.m. at Magic City Campus.
