Women’s Basketball: Beavers still seeking first win after loss at Montana State-Northern

The Minot State women’s basketball team took a slim lead into the fourth quarter, but were outscored by 10 points in the final frame, falling to Montana State-Northern, 67-59, on Sunday, Nov. 16.

Maya Aguilar led the Beavers with 14 points. Jessica Mogen and Tiyahna Trottier both netted 12 points to join Aguilar in double figures. Mogen also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds and recorded three steals.

Minot State never led during the first half, trailing 19-14 after the first quarter and 30-26 at halftime. The Beavers moved in front midway through the third quarter and took a 45-33 lead into the final 10 minutes of the contest.

The Beavers led 57-56 with 3:21 left in regulation, but the Northern Lights closed on an 11-2 run.

Minot State shot 33.3 percent from the field and 18.8 percent from 3. MSU-N shot 38.7 percent from the field and 26.9 percent from 3.

Taya Trottier led the Northern Lights with 17 points. Becky Melcher and Maddie Williamson each finished with 11. Williamson finished one rebound shy of a double-double.

Minot State hosts Montana State University-Billings at the MSU Dome on Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 5:30 p.m.
