Prep Volleyball: Majettes return to state tournament for first time since 2011

One year ago, the Minot High volleyball team saw its season end at the hands of Bismarck Legacy in five sets.

A year later, the Sabers again stood between the Majettes and the state tournament. However, this time, Minot High slayed the beast. Fittingly, it required a fifth set. The Majettes punched their ticket to the state tournament for the first time since 2011, topping Legacy in five sets, 25-15, 25-18, 18-25, 21-25, 15-11.

What looked like a potential sweep after two sets turned into a real nail-biter when the Sabres claimed the next two sets to force a winner-take-all fifth set. But Minot High regrouped in time to hold on and secure a trip to Bismarck.

Kynsli Gillmore led the Majettes with 17 kills. Brooke Bedell and Everette Deschamp also finished in double figures with 16 and 14 kills, respectively. Gillmore also led the team in digs with 32 and also added 2.5 blocks.

The Majettes had 12 blocks, with Eve Knutson leading the way with 4.5. Hadlea Faul recorded three blocks. Mackenzie Dufner recorded 47 assists.

Minot High will be the No. 3 seed from the West and play No. 2 seed from the East, West Fargo Sheyenne, in the quarterfinal round on Thursday, Nov. 20, at the Bismarck Events Center.

Bismarck Century won the WDA Tournament for the 12th straight year and will be the No. 1 seed. Jamestown is the No. 2 seed and Bismarck High will serve as the No. 4 seed at the state tournament.

Starting at $2.99/week.
