Women’s Soccer: Beavers net season-high 5 goals in rout of Jimmies
The Minot State women’s soccer team broke out for a season-high five goals in a decisive 5-0 victory over the University of Jamestown on Sunday, Oct. 19.
The five goals matches the most the Beavers (5-5-3 overall, 5-2-3 NSIC) have scored in a single match since a 5-0 victory over Minnesota Crookston on Oct. 21, 2022.
Sabrina Amezcua scored a pair of first-half goals and Iliana Rivera and Edeelin Ortega both scored their first goals of the season as the Beavers netted four goals in the first 35 minutes.
Leah Salas added Minot State’s fifth goal of the match in the 77th minute.
Minot State held an 18-11 advantage in shots and an 8-3 edge in shots on goal. MSU goalkeeper Rebecca Sargent finished with three saves to earn her first shutout of her collegiate career. Jamestown goalie Skylar Lind also finished with three saves.
The win moves Minot State into a tie for fifth with Concordia-St. Paul in the NSIC standings with 18 points. The Golden Bears dropped a 1-0 match to Minnesota State.
The Beavers travel to Southwest Minnesota State on Friday, Oct. 24, for a 5 p.m. match.
