Firefighters respond to weekend fires

Minot firefighters responded to fires at a storage unit and mobile home over the weekend, the Minot Fire Department reported.

Firefighters from the Minot Fire Department responded at 4:51 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, to reports of a fire inside a storage unit in the 600 block of 20th Avenue Southeast.

According to information from the fire department, crews arrived on scene 5 minutes later, at 4:56 a.m., and found black smoke venting out of the west side of the five-storage unit building. Firefighters quickly deployed a handline and entered the storage unit to extinguish the fire. The fire was contained to the semi-truck stored inside.

No injuries were reported.

At 6:27 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, firefighters were dispatched to the 3100 block of 11th Avenue Southeast for reports of a mobile home on fire.

Crews arrived on scene six minutes later, at 6:33 a.m., and found heavy flames coming from the front bedroom of the residence. Firefighters deployed a handline and entered the home to extinguish the fire, while additional crews conducted a search to ensure no occupants were inside.

The fire was quickly extinguished and contained in the bedroom. Two cats were found deceased in that room.

One resident and four dogs were displaced for the weekend. No injuries were reported.

The scene was turned over to the State Fire Marshal’s Office for further investigation.
