Minot High softball takes on Century Patriots at home

Minot’s Tuesday night home softball game against Century started out strong with senior Sydnee Barch pitching a no-hit first two innings of the game.

Minot scored 2 runs during the first two innings of the game. Junior Darby Mowbray hit a triple into left field and was quickly batted in by senior Gabrielle Roher’s base hit between Century’s shortstop and third baseman.

Magicians kept the momentum moving through the third inning, scoring another run and keeping Century at zero.

Century began to turn the tide heading into the fourth inning, taking three runs off Minot pitcher Barch, before being switched out for senior Raegan Terrel.

Century was able to score an additional three runs before the top ended with a caught fly ball.

A dropped fly ball into right field at the bottom of the fourth allowed a run for Minot, leaving the score 6-4 for Century at the end of the inning.

The magicians allowed two more runs in the sixth inning, bringing the score to 8-4 for Century at the start of the seventh. Minot’s Mowbray hit a triple in the bottom of the sixth.

Minot allowed no runs top of the seventh before Bartsch started off Minot’s at bat with a bunt bringing her to first.

The seventh inning ended with a throw out to first, leaving the score 8-4 for Century at the end of the first game.

The announcer took the time between games to honor Minot High’s graduating seniors, including Sydnee Bartsch, Halle Baker, Gabrielle Rohrer, Raegan Terrel, Kennedie Erdman and Journey Larson.

The announcer read off some of the girls’ favorite memories of the season and advice for the younger players to live in the moment and to not stress over the little things.

Minot senior Halle Baker started off on the pitcher’s mound for the second game

Century kept the momentum going through the start of the second game and took two runs at the top of the first.

Minot’s first at-bat of the game was cut short by a line drive out to right field, ending the inning 2-0 Century.

Minot was able to turn the tide after a collision between Century infielders allowed Minot to extend their second inning at bat. Minot was able to tie the game off of sophomore McKenna Nygaard’s pop fly double into left field.

Nygaard was able to steal third base before Mowbray brought her home for a third run and advanced senior Journey Larson to second base.

Mowbray’s second base steal allowed for Larson to make a clean run home, bringing the score to 4-2 for Minot at the end of the second inning.

Minot was able to hold Century off at the top of the third and three caught fly balls ended the third inning with no score change.

Minot’s Baker was swapped out for pitcher by Nygaard after giving up seven runs to Century in the top of the fourth.

Minot was able to score one more run by the end of the fourth inning, leaving the score 9-5 for Century heading into the fifth.

Baker returned to the mound in the top of the fifth after Century secured two more runs.

Century scored one more run before the bottom of the fifth bringing the score to 12-5.

Minot senior Halle Baker was able to secure another run for the Magicians in the bottom of the fifth.

Nygaard was able to bring home two more runners after a solid hit to the back corner of the fence, ending the inning with a score of 12-8 with Century still leading.

Century kept up the pressure, adding another nine runs during the top of the sixth inning. Minot was not able to bridge the gap, and the second game ended 21-8 for Century.

The team hosted a mini party honoring the team’s graduating seniors. For many of the players, Tuesday night’s game will be the last time they play as Minot Magicians at home.

The 2025 NDHSAA Class A Softball State Tournament is scheduled for May 29 through May 31.
