Local quartet selected to Division B All-State teams

BISMARCK – The North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association has announced their 2024 Division B Boys and Girls Basketball All-State Team on Tuesday, March 19. All-state basketball teams are voted on by members of the NDAPSSA.

For the girls, senior Our Redeemer’s Knight Maya Vibeto made first team all state for the Division B Girls team. The combination point guard / shooting guard scored her 2,000th point in quarterfinal regional play with a three point shot at the buzzer before halftime against Tioga. Vibeto led the Knights to the 2024 NDHSAA Division B, Region 4 Girls Basketball championship and into the 2024 NDHSAA Division B Girls Basketball State Tournament where Our Redeemer’s finished in sixth place where Vibeto was 6-13 from the field, 10-30 from three point range and averaged 15 points, three rebounds and two steals per game at the tournament.

For the boys, Westhope/Newburg junior Walker Braaten was named to the first team. Braaten was a key component in the Sioux having a tremendous run at the 2024 NDHSAA Division B Boys Basketball State Tournament where Westhope/Newburg upset the top seeded and undefeated North Star Bearcats in the title game. Over the tournament games, Braaten was 23-53 from the field, 10-29 from three point range and averaged 21 points, eight rebounds and between two and three steals per game.

Teammates and fellow Bishop Ryan juniors Ramsey Walz and Jett Lundeen were both named to the second team. The pair of Lions led Bishop Ryan to a fourth place finish at the state tournament. During the tournament, Walz was 20-41 from the field, 4-12 from three point range and averaged 17 points and 11 rebounds a game. Lundeen was 21-49 from the field, 4-17 from three point range and averaged 18 points and between five and six rebounds per game.
