Morelli inks deal with Stanley Cup champion Golden Knights

Tori Hartman Mason Morelli (11) of the Hershey Bears on the ice during a game that occurred earlier this season.

Mason Morelli is going from the Magic City to Sin City, although there were a few stops in between. On Saturday, the Stanley Cup champion Las Vegas Golden Knights announced via Twitter that they have signed Morelli to a two-year, two-way contract.

With it being a two-way contract, it gives the Golden Knights flexibility with Morelli, as they can call him up to the NHL or send him down to their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Henderson Silver Knights, at any time.

Coming off a championship season as well, Morelli won the Calder Cup with the Hershey Bears (Washington Capitals organization) just a few weeks ago. In 20 playoff games with the Bears during their run, Morelli posted 13 points on five goals and eight assists.

Being a part of the Hershey Bears since the 2020-21 season, Morelli played in 155 regular season games and posted 79 points on 24 goals and 55 assists during his lengthy tenure with the Bears.

At 27-years-old, Morelli will now get to open a new chapter with the Golden Knights, who bolstered their forward depth by bringing him on board. It is a special new chapter as well, with this being Morelli’s first NHL contract.

Morelli won’t be the only one in the Golden Knights organization with ties to Minot, however. Erin Ginnell, a former captain of the Minot Americans of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League, is with the Golden Knights as an amateur scout and was part of their Stanley Cup winning staff last season.
