MSU’s Lewis, Kindred claim two NSIC Weekly soccer honors

The league-leading Minot State Beavers not only netted a pair of wins at home over the weekend, but their play also earned two players honors from the NSIC.

Senior forward Sofia Lewis and junior goalkeeper Maddie Kindred each were honored by the league for their performance over the weekend as Lewis was named the NSIC Offensive Player of the Week for the first time this fall, and Kindred was named the NSIC Goalie of the Week for the second time.

Lewis, the all-time leading scorer at Minot State now with 49 career goals as a Beaver, netted three of those over the weekend. She led the offense with the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Winona State on Friday and scored twice in a 3-0 victory over Upper Iowa on Sunday. Lewis now has seven goals on the season for Minot State, which leads the Beavers (7-2-0 overall, 6-0-0 NSIC) and is second-most in the league.

As for Kindred, who was named goalie of the week back on Sept. 20, as well, she made save sevens in the Beavers’ 1-0 victory on Friday, then stopped all four shots she faced on Sunday in a 3-0 win over visiting Upper Iowa. The pair of shutouts gives Kindred four on the season as she has currently not allowed a goal in 203 minutes, 46 seconds.

Lewis, Kindred, and the rest of the Minot State soccer team, which has won seven in-a-row, is back in action at home again this weekend hosting Northern State University (4-3-1, 3-2-1) on Friday night in a game pushed back to 7:30 p.m., then host Minnesota State University Moorhead (0-9-0, 0-6-0) on Sunday at noon.
