Majettes take top spot at West Fargo Invite

For the second time in as many weeks, the Minot Majettes swim and dive team came out victorious in an invitational meet.

On Saturday, the Majettes wrapped up first place at the West Fargo Invite, finishing up the two-day competition with 392 team points. Minot outpaced runner up West Fargo Sheyenne, who compiled 343.5 points. Meanwhile, Bismarck Century (331.5), Dickinson (148) and Williston (135.5) rounded out the top five.

Of the 12 events at the meet, Minot produced eight top-three finishes. In the 200-yard medley relay, the group of Jordn Wolsky, Elise Altringer, Emily Brugman and Gabby Osborn combined for a third-place time of 1:57.71. Also in relay action, the quartet of Ava Williamson, Osborn, Reese Goodman and Sam Vanbokern took second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:46.28.

Individually, it was Vonbokern representing the Magi with third in the 50-yard free at 26.01 seconds. She also earned second in the 100-yard free at 55.86 seconds. In the 200-yard free, Altringer placed third with a time of 2:01.27. Meanwhile, Bella Price placed second for Minot in the one-meter dive with a score of 421.30.

Other standout efforts from the Minot team included Wolsky’s third-place time of 1:02.68 in the 100-yard backstroke. In the final event of the meet, Brugman, Vonbokern, Wolsky and Altringer placed third in the 400-yard freestyle relay at 3:44.86. Full results from this meet will be posted in the Tuesday edition of The Minot Daily News.

While Minot swim head coach Emily Jensen expressed her satisfaction with the team’s performance, she states the club has bigger goals in mind as the season draws to a close.

“It’s been a long time since our athletes have won an invite this large, and it’s hard to come back sometimes and race on the second day,” Jensen tells The Minot Daily News. “They really pulled together for this win. It’s fun to win, but our end goal is five weeks away. We just need to keep doing what we know how to do and keep plugging away at our goals.”

Next up on the schedule, Minot plans to be in Jamestown for a dual meet on Thursday. Start time for that meet is slated for 5 p.m.
