MSU track competes at Masanz Classic and Grand Valley St.

The Minot State University track and field team continues to put itself in good positioning heading toward the NSIC postseason with strong performances across the board at the MSU Moorhead Ron Masanz Classic and the Grand Valley State Extra Weekend Meet.

Leif Nelson won the men’s javelin with a throw of 61.27 meters to reach a provisional NCAA qualifying mark for the Beavers men’s track and field team. Trestin Mancillas-Finnerty set a Division II program record on Friday night in the GVSU meet. Mancillas-Finnerty finished the men’s 1500-meter run with a time of 3:58.82 which is a DII program record.

Corbin Harris finished second in the men’s shot put with a throw of 14.31 meters. Harris also finished eighth in the men’s hammer throw with a toss of 45.87. In the GVSU meet, Caitlin Cornell finished sixth in 1500 with a time of 5:10.73 and Jacob Jensen finished second with a time of 4:07.08.

Alicia Murillo finished 14th in the women’s 1500 meter run with a time of 5:09.77. Monica Okopal ran a time of 5:37.90 to finish 31st. In the men’s 1500 meter run, Tito Gonzalez finished 16th with a time of 4:26.37.

Ashley Miller finished ninth in the women’s 400-meter dash with a time of 1:04.54. In the men’s 400-meter dash, Vincente Guereca finished 11th with a time of 56.36. Guereca also posted a 19th-place finish with a time of 25.21 in the men’s 200 meters.

Meanwhile, Fadzai Madavo posted the 26th-fastest time in the women’s 100-meter dash with a 14.43 marking. Howard Wade Jr. finished 18th with a time of 12.24 and Connor Bishop was 20th with a time of 12.62 in the men’s 100-meter dash at the Ron Masanz Classic.

Juan Gutierrez finished 14th in the men’s 800-meter run with a time of 2:00.34. In the women’s 200 meter dash, Ashley Miller finished 21st (27.32) and Amber Stevahn was 23rd (27.49). Stevahn also finished eighth in the women’s high jump (1.53).

Lauren Reeves finished 6th in the women’s 5000-meter run with a time of 21:53.97. In the women’s hammer throw, Tori Nygard finished 12th with a throw of 45.47, Breanna Johns-Oster was 22nd with a throw of 41.04, Sophia Kenyon finished 30th with a throw of 36.48, and Samantha Brunelle finished 31st with a throw of 35.97.

Nygard also finished 4th in the women’s javelin with a throw of 36.09 and Danielle Stauffer finished 16th with a throw of 29.16. Johns-Oster finished eighth in the women’s shot put (12.33m), Chloe Gunderson finished 11th with a throw of 11.37, and Samantha Brunelle made a throw of 10.84m to finish 13th.

Logan Krueger finished second in the men’s hammer throw with a toss of 51.27. Samuel Kreins finished 15th with a throw of 39.80. On Friday in the GVSU contest, Lewis Cotterill finished the 800 with a time of 1:54.22 which was good for first in Section 2 of the event.

The Beavers have one more regular-season meet as they compete in the DSU Last Chance Meet next weekend in Dickinson.
