MSU wrestling falls to Minnesota State Mankato, 27-13
Although the No. 23 Minot State wrestling team found an early rhythm, No. 17 Minnesota State Mankato countered with some mid-match momentum in Saturday’s dual.
The Beavers (4-5, 1-3 NSIC) dropped a 27-13 decision to the Mavericks (6-1, 2-0 NSIC).
MSU’s Dean Arevalo kicked off the action with an 11-5 decision over Trenton McManus in the 125-pound weight class. Oscar Nellis earned a 14-2 major decision win over Cole Gille at 133, giving the Beavers an early 7-0 advantage.
Minnesota State’s Louie Sanders countered with a 14-5 major decision victory over Lincoln Stormer at 141. Kyle Rathman kept the Mavericks’ streak alive at 149, pinning Shadi Mitwalli in 3:20.
Cooper Siebrecht defeated MSU’s Zachary Berry via a 6-1 decision at 157. Nathan Baca gave the Beavers three points with his 7-4 decision over Logan Saltou at 165.
At 174, Zach Johnston picked up five points for the Mavericks. Johnston earned a 19-3 technical fall over Joseph Lopez.
Trevor Turiff secured a 10-3 decision over MSU’s Noe Garcia at 184. Matt Blome pinned the Beavers’ Je-Mario Jones in 29 seconds at 197, marking the matinee’s quickest match.
Jordan Will won a grueling match over Minnesota State’s David Griffet at 285. Will contributed three points with his 8-1 decision, but the match was already decided.
MSU will welcome Northern State University (5-5, 1-4 NSIC) for a 7 p.m. dual on Friday.
