Minot State’s Zimmermann, Cabral named All-NSIC

BURNSVILLE, Minn. — Senior Tori Zimmermann and junior Isis Cabral were each named to the 2018 Northern Sun Intercollegiate All-Conference team as selected by the league head coaches and announced by the conference office on Wednesday.

Zimmermann was named First Team All-NSIC as a catcher and Cabral was named Second Team All-NSIC in the outfield. It marks the first all-conference designation for both players.

Zimmermann is having one of the top offensive seasons in school history and ranks third in the nation in doubles (22), 15th in hits (71), 15th in total bases (125), 28th in slugging percentage (.791) and 29th in batting average (.449). She also leads the NSIC in doubles and is second in slugging percentage and third in batting average.

The Bakersfield, Calif., native was twice named the NSIC Player of the Week during the season and led the Beavers with 22 multiple-hit games and 12 multiple-RBI games. She posted a .420 batting average with runners in scoring position and was third on the team with 13 two-out RBIs.

Cabral is one of three Minot State players with a batting average above .400 as she is hitting .414 on the year. She is tied for ninth in the NCAA with seven triples, ranks 29th with an on-base percentage of .518 and is 90th in Division II with 99 total bases. She is tied for first in the NSIC in triples, ranks third in on-base percentage and is sixth in the league in slugging percentage.

Cabral was the Beavers batting leader in NSIC games as she hit .431 in 26 conference contests. She led the Beavers with 24 runs scored during conference play and topped the team with a .578 on-base percentage against NSIC competition. The Oxnard, Calif., native had the Beavers longest streak of reaching base with 19 straight games and also had a 13-game hitting streak during the year, which marked the second longest on the team.

Zimmermann is joined on the first team by Ashley Mickschl of Augustana, Carlie Hart and Nicole Thompson of Concordia-St. Paul, Hannah Schmoll of Minnesota Duluth, Carly Esselman, Hannah McCarville and Jessica Meidl of Minnesota State, Jamie Fisher and Courtney Sjerven of Northern State, Ashley Meyer of Sioux Falls, Emily Chandler of Wayne State and Jordyn Kleman, McKenna Larsen, Ali Nowak and Lani Van Zyl of Winona State.

The second team is comprised of Cabral, Maggie Kadrlik, Lexy Pederson, Shannon Petersen and Kaylea Schorr of Augustana, Kelsey McAllister of Bemidji State, Justine Schattner of Concordia-St. Paul, Emma Noble and Kylie Alto of Mary, Gabriel Antolak of Minnesota Crookston, Becky Smith and Natalie Wright of Minnesota Duluth, McKenzie Paap of Minnesota State, Kerrigan Hoshaw and Sydney Nieveen of Sioux Falls, Haley McFarlane and Morgan Emmans of St. Cloud State, Jordyn Brennan of Upper Iowa, Katelyn Wobken of Wayne State and Mariah Schultz of Winona State.

Van Zyl was named the Player of the Year, while Kleman was selected as the Pitcher of the Year. Mickshl was tabbed as the Freshman of the Year and Noble garnered Newcomer of the Year honors. Greg Jones of Winona State was named the NSIC Coach of the Year.
