GOP is lying to you

Eric Suwall Minot Many MAGA-conservatives (MAGACons) think an FBI investigation over Trump’s mishandling of classified documents is politically motivated despite the evidence uncovered, including: 1. pictures of the mishandled/stolen documents, 2. testimony by several Trump associates who saw Trump casually flaunting said documents, and 3. taped audio of Trump discussing classified documents with people lacking security clearance. There was also a request from the National Archives that Trump return missing documents, which he declined to do and lied by saying that he had. This ...

Context shows forgiveness, not lack of sin

Marlys Orluck, Minot Thoughts on Mr. James Maxson’s comment on what Jesus had to say regarding the woman who was caught in adultery. Jesus comments regarding “Let those among you who are without sin cast the first stone.” Jesus knew that we are all sinners and none of us are without sin. That is why Jesus came to earth to die for us because Jesus was sinless and could pay for our sin if we accept Jesus’s gift of salvation and forgiveness and have a personal relationship Him. Jesus also knew that their reason for judging the woman was to trap Jesus. The rest of the ...

Older residents deserve better from SSA

Nancy Guy, Volunteer State President, AARP North Dakota, Bismarck Most of us have experienced long hold times or dropped calls when trying to get through to a customer service agent. You may have even received incorrect information the first time you called and had to start the process all over again. Unfortunately, this is what many people who are trying to reach the Social Security Administration (SSA) experience. Thousands of older North Dakotans, people with disabilities, and their families rely on Social Security. And they should also be able to rely on quality customer ...

America’s digression won’t end well

Steven Moen, Minot We as a country are no longer a Constitutional Republic. We have digressed into a Biden/Democrat Banana Republic. The events of the last few weeks have proven that beyond a shadow of a doubt. The indictment of Former President Trump over the handling of documents is just an excuse by the Biden Administration to lock up their main political opponent. Also the slap on the wrist for Hunter and Joe over treasonous influence peddling with China put the icing on the cake. We now live in a Marxist country where it depends on who you are as to how you get treated. Those ...

Proud to fly rainbow flag

Valerie Stadick, Minot As a local business that has openly loved, respected, admired and supported the gay community in Minot I also proudly fly a rainbow flag in my window. The LGBTQ+ community has been a kind, supportive and loving part of why I remain committed to Minot and to the diverse voices that are a reflection of a progressive and welcoming community. I was born down the street from my bookstore at Trinity Hospital and moved back to North Dakota 30 years ago last month. In my years in Minot, and my years of owning my bookstore, I have always treated my customers ...

Thoughts on human relations committee debate

James Maxson, Minot According to a UCLA study, 3.5% of Americans are gay or bisexual and 0.3% of Americans are transgender. Whether or not UCLA factored in those persons who remain in the closet is an unknown. Whether or not this study is spot on, dead wrong or merely an estimate is above my pay grade. Presently the Minot City Council is “studying” the issue of changes, if any, to a Human Relations Committee. I was watching the Twins getting crushed by the Red Sox the evening of the last city council meeting thus missing what councilman Pitner described as a “gong show.” ...
