Minot native still serving his country

President Donald Trump has made a wise decision in nominating Minot native Lt. Col. Daniel M. Gade to the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

The nomination is for the remainder of a five-year term expiring July 1, 2021.

Gade will be a good fit for the position and we congratulate him on his selection.

Born and raised in North Dakota, Gade graduated from Minot High School in 1993 and from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., in 1997.

Minot Daily readers will remember how he was wounded in action twice, and decorated for valor while serving in Iraq, losing his right leg after an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. Through all his trials, Gade has been an inspiration and positive role model for young people in the region.

Later, Gade served in the administration of President George W. Bush, where his portfolio included military health care, veterans and U.S. disability policy. In 2011, he returned to West Point, where he taught political science and leadership courses until retiring from the Army this year. He was appointed to the National Council on Disability in 2015.

Again, we are certain that Gade will put his best effort into his new responsibility and we wish him well.
