Minot park system a valuable resource

Minot’s schools; some people like them, others not so much.

Downtown; it will always be popular with a segment of the population, but many of us have not ventured down there in years.

The parks, now that is something most Minoters take pride in – and use – now more than ever, it seems.

Did you know our parks are one of Minot’s biggest selling points when potential new residents are being sold on the Magic City. Such is their magnetism.

Witness how the Minot Area Chamber of Commerce has incorporated the parks in its mission. The Chamber’s Military Affairs Committee just last week hosted another Military Day at the Zoo. The annual special day is a way for the community to say thanks to military members and their families with a free meal and zoo admission.

Kids rode the merry-go-round, took rides on the train and toured the zoo. Some kids even got to help feed the animals. Free ice skating at Maysa Arena and a free round of golf at Souris Valley Golf Course was also offered.

That is not something every community can offer to its residents and guests, and something we should all remember as summer begins this week. Many of us will head to the parks more frequently now to enjoy a respite from the news and the pressures of the day, maybe take in a concert or make a splash in the pool.

How lucky we are to live in the Magic City.
