Joyce Buen

Joyce (Manastyrske) Buen was born on May 8, 1921, in Gorham, ND. She passed away on October 17, 2025, in Omaha, NE, at the age of 104. Joyce grew up in Cando, ND, and married Laurel Buen on October 26, 1940. They made their home in Berthold, ND. They were married for 71 years until Laurel’s passing in 2012. Joyce moved to Omaha in 2015 to live with her daughter. She remained at home until recently, when she entered Hospice care.

Joyce will be remembered as loving, kind, caring, and generous. She was a wonderful hostess who delighted in preparing everyone’s favorite foods for family gatherings. She had a remarkable green thumb and took great pride in caring for her yard, flowers, and home. She was also an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Berthold for many years.

Joyce had the softest of hearts, but she also possessed remarkable strength and resolve, always showing up for her family. For 104 years, she blessed this earth with her presence, and her beautiful spirit continues on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Joyce is survived by her daughter, Patricia Grant of Omaha, and her son, Ron Buen of Victoria, BC, Canada; along with nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, and another one on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Marion; husband Laurel; her siblings Mary, Helen, John, Viola, and Kay; her son Gene, and two daughters-in-law, Patricia Buen and Pat Buen.

No service is scheduled at this time. A private burial will be held at a later date.
