Meetings set on new floodplain management authority
BISMARCK – The North Dakota Department of Water Resources (DWR) has announced a series of meetings for community officials from cities, counties, and townships to discuss how Senate Bill 2027 affects local participation in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
SB 2027 changed state law defaulting floodplain management authority outside of cities to counties. These meetings will outline what that change means for local governments, what requirements for participating communities are included in SB 2027, and how DWR will support the transition.
Local officials involved in planning, permitting, floodplain administration, or community development are encouraged to attend.
Area meetings will be held Wednesday, Dec. 17, from 9-11 a.m. in the Bismarck Library, Room B (downstairs), 515 N. 5th St., and Friday, Dec. 19, from 10 a.m.-noon in the Rough Rider Center, 2209 Wolves Den Pkwy, Watford City.
