Dwayne H. Patterson, 66, rural Norwich, ND, passed away Monday, December 8, 2025, in his home.
Dwayne was born on October 21, 1959, to Hugh Junior and JoAnn (Smith) Patterson of Denbigh, ND. Dwayne grew up ranching with his father, grandfather, and 2 younger brothers Arlen and Mark.
Dwayne graduated from Granville High School in 1978, following graduation Dwayne worked some in construction before going to Billings Vo- Tech in Billings, Montana for diesel engines.
Dwayne’s love for working on diesel engines brought him to start J&J Truck Repair and Salvage in Norwich, in 1984.
Dwayne’s dream was to have cattle, so when he met a local rancher’s daughter JoAnn Fredrickson in 1989, and later married in 1996, they built their ranch for the next 29 years.
Dwayne and JoAnn welcomed their only child, a daughter, Sadie in 2001.
Dwayne’s wealth of knowledge about everything made him a great businessman who cherished the friendships he made through J & J for the last 40+ years. Dwayne was always happy to help someone in need whether it was something with equipment, someone just wasn’t sure on what they should do or someone just needed assistance. Dwayne loved to visit with people, you could either find him at the diner, the gas station, in the middle of the gravel road somewhere, or at a gun auction. There was hardly a place you could go that he didn’t know someone there. Dwayne was one to help others but never really asked for help from anyone. Dwayne’s biggest joy was ranching with his daughter Sadie. Dwayne will be greatly missed by everyone that knows him.
Dwayne is survived by his wife of 29 years JoAnn, Norwich, daughter Sadie, Norwich, brothers Arlen (Beth), Norwich, their children, Carrie (Jordan) Mauro, Arlen J, and Travis. Mark (Sandy), Norwich, their children Dustin (Jackie) and Kyle (Kelsey). Brother-in – laws Calvin (Kim), Minot, their children Khristopher, and Patti (Shawn) Kuhnhenn.
