Lyle Grant Windfaldet, 86, passed away October 11, 2025, at CHI St. Alexius in Garrison. Funeral services for Lyle Windfaldet will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 20, 2025, at Ambrose Lutheran Church. A reception will immediately follow the service. Interment will then take place at the Ambrose Cemetery.
Lyle Windfaldet was born November 9, 1938, in Ambrose, North Dakota, to Lars and Clarice (Thon) Windfaldet.
He graduated from Ambrose High School in 1956 as salutatorian of his class. He especially enjoyed the sport of basketball as an Ambrose Viking. He went on to attend Minot State Teachers College, where he obtained a teacher’s certificate. However, he quickly discovered teaching was not his calling.
On February 15, 1958, he married Louise Beckedahl in Sherwood. To this union, three children were born: Robert, Lori, and Debra. In addition to farming and ranching, Lyle sold insurance for Farmers Union Insurance and also worked for a short while with Farm Service Agency.
Lyle was a member of the Ambrose Lutheran Church, where he was baptized, confirmed, and served on the church council and the parish board.
Surviving family members include son, Robert Windfaldet, Ambrose; daughters Lori (Robin) Hauge, Williston, and Debra (Joseph) Baro, Bellevue, Washington; sisters Myrna (Paul) Woitzel, Mapleton, and Elaine (Pete) Mahan, Hendersonville, Tennessee; sisters-in-law Lois (Bill) Tallent, Lake Tapps, Washington, and Mary Beckedahl, Landa; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren: Stacey and Aaron Peterson (Auna, Sonja, and Aksel); Grant and Addie Windfaldet (Porter); Aaron and Lisa Windfaldet; Billie and Garrett Aasand (Scottie); and Brian, Kyle, Amy, and Steven Baro; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by Louise; parents Lars and Clarice; father-in-law Glenn Beckedahl; mother-in-law Ethel (Sundby Beckedahl) Medler; stepfather-in-law Donald Medler; sisters- and brothers-in-law Gail (Roger) Halverson, Richard (Delores) Beckedahl, and Rodney Beckedahl; and infant nephew Glenn Beckedahl.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to a charity of your choosing.
