Iris Wittmier-Miller, age 93 of Bottineau, passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at a Bottineau nursing home. Her funeral was held on Friday, November 1, 2024 at 2:00 p.m., at the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau. Officiating at the service was Pastor Beth Kelsey. Beth Sluder was the pianist. Casket bearers were all of Iris’ grandchildren and Dale Schneider. Burial was at the Oak Creek Cemetery in Bottineau.
Iris was born on March 1, 1931. She grew up on a farm south of Gardena, ND with her parents Ellen and Sam Plorin, younger siblings Sam Jr., Curtis, Sharon, Violet and Dorothy. She graduated from Gardena High School and attended nurses training at St. Andrews Hospital. She married Wilbert Wittmier in 1950 and they lived on a farm, also south of Gardena, until moving to Bottineau in 1959. They had four children: Harvey, Darwin, Robyn and Linda. She worked at the local clinic for Dr. Malvey, at the Ben Franklin Store, and local Thompson Drug store while her children were growing up.
After the death of her husband, Wilbert, in 1980, she returned to college and attained a Medical Technician certification. A few years later she married Neal Miller of Garrison, worked in the Garrison Clinic, and later moved to Minot. After Neal’s death she moved to Fargo where she lived until 2019 when she moved back to Bottineau. She became a resident of the Good Samaritan Care Facility in Bottineau in 2022 where she died peacefully on October 24, 2024.
Iris was preceded in death by parents Sam and Ellen Plorin, brothers Sam Jr. and Curtis, sister Sharon Reinhardt; husbands Wilbert Wittmier and Neal Miller. She is survived by sisters Dorothy Gonitzke, New Richland, MN and Violet Munson, Concord, CA, her children Harvey Wittmier (Deborah) in Woodland Park, CO; Darwin Wittmier (Corine) in Fargo, ND; Robyn Engelstad (Lynn) in Bismarck, ND; and Linda Thom (Jeff) in Goodlands, Manitoba, Canada.
She is survived by her grandchildren: Jessica Bolen, Sasha Larson (Eric), Katie Noel (Joe), Heidi Boelke (Dave), Megan Milender (Dane), Shawn Parkinson (Sandy), Troy Parkinson(Chanda), Jon Engelstad(Allison), Dustin Engelstad (Katherine), Jessie Thom (Katie), Bobbi Jo Castaneda and 30 great-grandchildren.
