Donald Gravesen, 73, rural Kenmare, ND, passed away Sunday, August 4, 2024, in his home.
Donald Eugene Gravesen was born June 12, 1951, the son of Floyd and Inez (Leet) Gravesen, in Kenmare, ND. He was raised and educated in Kenmare, graduating high school in 1969. Following high school, he attended college in Wahpeton to study electrical work.
He enlisted in the United States Army on May 6, 1971. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He was stationed in Germany. He was honorably discharged April 27, 1973.
He was once married to Barbara Melby. They were blessed with three children.
He was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church, Kenmare. He was the owner/operator of Gravesen Electric and Gravesen Aerial Spraying. He and Cindy farmed together for 11 years until his retirement. He enjoyed flying, riding motorcycle, fishing, hunting, and traveling. He liked to spend time at Mouse River Park. He loved to spend time with his grandkids and to spend his winters with Cindy in Arizona.
His loving family includes: mother, Inez Gravesen, Minot; partner of 15 years, Cynthia Nieland, Kenmare; children, Kelly (Laura) Gravesen, Decatur, GA, Crystal (Dean) Eide, Carpio, Amanda Gravesen, Grand Forks; grandchildren, Riley Eide, Carter Eide, Jaryn Sundby, Tate Gravesen, Hadley Gravesen; sister, Susan (Geoff) Webster, North Pole, AK; nephew, Jason (Gwen) Schammel; North Pole, AK; niece, Ashley (Erickson Dehmer) Webster; North Pole, AK; great-nephew, Rollin Dehmer; great-nieces, Julienne Schammel, Lauren Schammel, Ally Schammel; great great-niece, Roslynn Parker; aunt, Shirley Nelson; Cindy’s daughters, Patty Brownell, Lois (Brent) Johnson; grandchildren, Austin (Paige) Brownell and their son, Rhett, Kyle Brownell, Rebecca (Thomas Craig) Hummer; Caddy Brekhus’ children and grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd; partner, Caddy Brekhus; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Private Inurnment: Thursday, August 8, 2024, at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
