Einar Oen

Aug. 16, 1943-April 18, 2024

Minot

Einar M. Oen, 80, Minot, formerly of Burlington, North Dakota, passed away on April 18, 2024, at the Garrison Memorial Hospital with his loving family at his side. He passed away due to the complications of the shingles virus.

Einar was born August 16, 1943, the son of Andrew and Irene (Klungness) Oen. Einar was raised and educated in Des Lacs and graduated from Minot High School. Einar entered the local Plumbers and Pipefitters Union apprenticeship plumbing trade in 1964, working for City Plumbing & Heating and then Haps Plumbing & Heating. Einar obtained his Master Plumbers License in August 1975 and began working for different Power Plants throughout North Dakota. In 1987, Einar began working for Mowbray & Sons Plumbing and Heating and retired in August 2005.

Einar married Rose Marie Savelkoul on September 12, 1964, in Minot. They welcomed their first child, Dawn Marie, then Jody Lynn and Preston Micheal. Rose and Einar made their home in Burlington, ND. Einar worked hard to make sure they were taken care of and loved.

Einar was affectionately known as the âbullshitterã by many and was a true master of storytelling. With a gift of spinning tales that captivated those who listened, he had a knack for weaving humor and wit into every conversation. Einar’s larger-than-life personality and animated storytelling will be missed by friends and family. He had the ability to bring laughter and charm to everyone he met; he was one in a million.

While we lost our beloved dad, many have lost a true friend, and to many, he was their rock. Einar brought joy and laughter to all who crossed his path. There was so much more to him than just dad; he was a caring and compassionate person and helped people, especially those who had plumbing problems. Rose was the only person in Burlington with leaky faucets.

Einar was an avid Vikings fan and never missed a game. He found a passion in restoring antique farm equipment, from threshing machines to his all-time favorite John Deere tractors. Einar loved to share his completed projects with everyone.

Einar was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church; his faith was important to him. He was also a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union and the Minot Trail Rider’s Club in his younger years.

Einar is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Rose; daughter, Dawn Marie (Patrick Moorhead) Lakoduk; and daughter-in-law Schannan (Dennis Steen) Oen. Grandchildren, Danielle Rose (Nick) Reinisch, Taylor (Delaney) Lakoduk, Levi (Ally) Oen, Dallas Oen, Rylie Oen, Shelby Mattson, Medora Mattson, and Dillon (Hannah Marquart) Mattson; great-grandchildren Boone, Tilly, and Rosie Reinisch, Addison Oen, Wrenley and Winsley Oen, and Graham Mattson; Sister, Doris Oen, Pasco Washington; Brother, Art (Shirley) Oen, Minot, ND.
