Kyle was born March 7,
1951, in Minot, ND, to Er-
nest and Venetia Giffey,
the oldest of four chil-
dren. He graduated from
White Shield High School
in 1969, then went on to
two years at Dickinson
State University. He met
the love of his life, Sandy
Wagner, in the pep band
while attending Moorhead
Technical Institute where
he graduated with a de-
gree in restaurant manage-
ment. They married on
November 25, 1972, and
moved to Mandan, ND, in
1973 where Kyle began
his lifelong career in the
restaurant industry as the
manager of the Seven
Seas. A year later, Kyle
and Sandy moved to
Garrison where they
bought the Stone Inn res-
taurant, expanding the
kitchen and adding the
bar and banquet dining.
In 1985, Kyle transitioned
to restaurant management
at the Lakeroad Restau-
rant in Garrison. He was
there 12 years before start-
ing Kyle’s Katering and
Giffey’s Yard and Garden
Center which he enjoyed
until his death. One of his
greatest joys in his life
was serving people and he
was absolutely the best at
it.
Kyle was very involved
in Flickertail Farmers 4-H
through the years, the
County Fair Board, Dick-
ens Festival committee,
and Garrison Area Im-
provement Association.
He enjoyed old westerns,
books of all kinds espe-
cially North Dakota Histo-
ry, and oldies on the ra-
dio. He raised sheep all of
his life and was very
proud of his yard full of
beautiful flowers and
plants of all kinds. He had
the kindest heart and wit-
tiest sense of humor. Kyle
touched many lives in his
71 years and has left a
lasting legacy through his
three children, and 11
grandchildren.
