Prep Baseball: Sentinels fall to Hawks in non-conference contest

West Fargo Horace wasn’t feeling as charitable against the Minot North baseball team as it was hours prior against Minot High.

The Hawks coughed up a late lead to the Magicians, but did no such thing against the Sentinels, jumping out to a 9-0 lead after three innings and holding on for a 14-4 victory over Minot North on Saturday, May 9, at Corbett Field.

Horace (22-3) collected 13 hits, with all nine batters contributing to the total and eight scoring at least a run. The Hawks plated six runs in the second inning. Brody Strahm doubled in a pair of runs with the bases loaded and Kaisen Nordick followed with a two-run single to left. A bases-loaded walk and a sacrifice fly capped off the inning.

They added three more in the third, two coming on a home run from Nordick.

The Sentinels (14-7) registered all of their runs in the third via the long ball. Brody Mueller connected on a two-run home run off a 1-2 pitch from Nolan Gladue and Jace Price followed suit with another two-run home run with two outs.

Mueller and Landyn McGhee led the Sentinels with two hits each.

The Hawks countered with four of their own the following inning, but kept the baseball in the ballpark. Strahm doubled home Nordick and Jett Collings scored two more on a single to left. Cooper Fuchs followed with an RBI single to push Horace’s lead to 13-4.

Collins finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Nordick was 2-for-2 with four RBIs and three runs scored. Fuchs, Oliver Leshovsky and Austin Ohleen all had two RBIs.

Minot North closes out its regular season with a doubleheader against Jamestown on Monday, May 11, at Corbett Field at 4:30 p.m.

Starting at $2.99/week.
