Robert Helstedt, 86,
Minot and formerly of
Bergen died on Sunday,
October 3, 2021 in a
Minot hospital.
Robert Larry Helstedt
was born on January 19,
1935 in Minot to Rudolph
and Luella (Haga) Hel-
stedt. They lived in Ber-
gen until the family
moved to Towner in 1939
when his father served as
McHenry County Sheriff.
The family returned to the
Bergen area in 1945 and
farmed in Odin Town-
ship. Robert graduated
from Bergen High School
in 1953.
Robert married the love
of his life, Ardella Weber,
on August 4, 1957 at Oak
Valley Lutheran Church
in Velva. They made
their home in Minot
where Robert was em-
ployed at Minot Dental
Lab. He was one of the
first certified dental tech-
nicians in North Dakota.
In 1974, Robert became a
civil service employee at
the Minot Air Force Base
where he worked in the
Paint Shop, Heat Shop
and Asbestos Removal
Shop. He retired in 1997.
Robert was a longtime
member of Augustana
Lutheran Church and
later Christ Lutheran
Church. Robert’s family
meant the world to him.
He also loved old tractors,
stationary engines, bib
overalls, Dish TV and
sweets. He was extremely
mechanical and could fix
anything. He was a
member of the Drake,
Lansford, and Makoti
Threshing Associations
and the Oliver Club.
Robert’s loving family
includes: his wife of 64
years Ardella; daughters:
Sue Doeling of Houston,
Barb (Pete) Schmitt of
Minneapolis; grandchil-
dren: Steven (Mary) Doel-
ing and Kathleen (Craig)
Elsbury; great grandson:
Lucas Elsbury; sisters: Au-
drey Hultman of Greeley,
CO and Bonnie (Curt)
Feist of Velva;
brother-in-law: Arno
(Sharon) Weber of Minot
and several nieces,
nephews and cousins.
Robert was preceded in
death by: his parents.
The family wishes to
thank the staff at Edge-
wood for their excellent
care of Robert the past
eight months. Special
thanks to LaVonne Gul-
lickson for her caregiving
and friendship these past
years.
Celebration of the Life
of Robert Helstedt: Satur-
day, October 9, 2021 at
2:00 p.m. at Christ Luth-
eran Church – Minot.
The family requests that
all who are attending be
vaccinated and wear a
mask, and if unvaccinat-
ed, the family requests
you join them via a lives-
tream of the service, avail-
able by using the link in
the website obituary.
Interment will be in the
Bergen Cemetery with a
time of fellowship to fol-
low at the Bergen Church.
Visitation: Friday from
4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in
the Thomas Family Fun-
eral Home – Minot.
Memorials are preferred
to the Bergen Cemetery or
Christ Lutheran Church.
