Mary Lou Bachmeier

Jan. 31, 1948-Oct. 3, 2021

Mary Lou Bachmeier,

73, Minot, formerly of

Velva, ND died Sunday

October 3, 2021 in a

Minot nursing.

Mary Louise Bachmeier

was born on January 31,

1948, a daughter of Chris-

tian and Brigitha (Ziegler)

Bachmeier in Rugby, ND.

She was raised in Orrin,

Surrey, Minot and Velva.

As a young girl one of her

favorite things was to

spend time on her Grand-

pa and Grandma

Bachmeier’s farm near Or-

rin.

She graduated from

Velva High School in

1966. Following gradua-

tion, Mary lived in Velva

for a time, then moved to

Minot where she was em-

ployed by Minot Laundry

for a number of years be-

fore transferring to St.

Joseph’s Hospital. At St.

Joe’s she worked her way

from the laundry depart-

ment to medical records

and later assisting within

the pharmacy. In her later

years, she worked at the

Jim Hill Middle School

cafeteria retiring for

health reasons.

She was a member of

St. Leo the Great Catholic

Church in Minot, and St.

Cecilia Catholic Church in

Velva. Mary was an ac-

complished cook and bak-

er and collected cook-

books from many local

churches and communi-

ties. She liked to garden

and raise beautiful

flowers. She loved shop-

ping, especially for shoes

and purses. She enjoyed

going to auctions and col-

lecting antique items. She

also enjoyed going to casi-

nos with her friend and

companion, Larry.

One of the hardest but

perhaps the most reward-

ing parts of Mary’s life

was becoming the legal

guardian for her little sis-

ter LaDonna, after the

death of their mother in

1988. Mary was

LaDonna’s guardian and

advocate until her death

in January of 2002, often

bringing her home from

her group home for week-

ends, holidays, family

events and shopping trips

for clothes, puzzles and

coloring books. If “Donna

Mae” was here today, she

would say “Thank you

Louie!”

Our family would like

to give our appreciation

for all the excellent care

Mary Lou received while

at the Trinity Nursing

Home. God Bless the care-

givers!

Survived by: her

companion/caregiver, Lar-

ry Brodehl; siblings, Allen

(Deb) Bachmeier, Carl

Bachmeier, and Melvin

(Judith) Bachmeier.

Several nieces, nephews,

aunts, uncles and cousins

also survive.

Mary was preceded in

death by: her parents; a

sister, LaDonna

Bachmeier; and a

sister-in-law, Rita (Klein)

Bachmeier; grandparents;

and many aunts and un-

cles.
