Mae E. Mueller
May 25, 1923-Aug. 15, 2021
Mae E. Mueller, age 98,
died peacefully in her
home at Edgewood Vista
in Minot, on Sunday, Au-
gust 15, 2021.
Mae was born May 25,
1923, in Plaza, the
daughter of Edgar and
Helma (Braaflat) Wheel-
ing. She was baptized and
confirmed at First Luth-
eran Church in Plaza. She
graduated from Plaza
High School in 1941.
Mae married Vern Ol-
son on June 20, 1942.
They made their home on
a farm north of Plaza,
where they raised their
six children. Vern passed
away in 1975 and a few
years later Mae moved
from the farm to Plaza
where she lived until
1986. Mae married Don
Mueller on July 5, 1986,
and moved to Ryder.
When Don died in 1999,
Mae returned to Plaza to
be closer to family and
continue hosting parties
in the house she deemed
as “our house, not mine.”
Mae worked at the
Parshall and Plaza Cafes.
She loved to cook and
bake, and was famous for
her delicious pies, lefsa,
and doughnuts. She was a
lifetime member of First
Lutheran Church and La-
dies Aid of Plaza. She en-
joyed bowling and
belonged to a league in
Parshall and Minot for 25
years. Mae spent summers
at the golf course; in later
years she would be seen
riding her golf cart and
hitting golf balls in the
schoolyard or baseball
fields, with her grandchil-
dren chasing after the
balls. She was also a char-
ter member of the 59er’s
Homemakers in Plaza.
Mae enjoyed spending
time with her family and
looked forward to hosting
holidays at her house. She
cherished her family and
was blessed with 19
grandchildren and 21
great-grandchildren. Mae
always made sure there
was more food than peo-
ple and no one left her
house hungry. As her
eyesight diminished, Mae
embraced learning tech-
nology to keep connected
with family through her
voice-activated “little girl”
Alexa.
In 2018, Mae made the
decision to move to Edge-
wood Vista in Minot,
where she quickly gained
the love and admiration of
all the staff and became
widely known as Miss
Mae. In her final year,
Mae gained close compan-
ions in the form of First-
Light caregivers that de-
voted their days to her.
She always told her chil-
dren to not be sad when
she was gone and just
remember she was a
“good old soul.” May God
bless the memory of our
beloved mom, grandma,
great-grandma, and
friend.
Mae is survived by: her
