Jim was born in Minot,
ND, on April 19, 1951, to
Helen (Rolf) and Emil Do-
maskin. He graduated
from Stanley High School
in 1969. He attended the
University of North Dako-
ta before graduating with
a Bachelor’s Degree from
Idaho State University.
Jim married Mary
(Heffner) Domaskin in
Idaho Falls, ID, on May 6,
1972. He worked at the
U.S. nuclear testing la-
boratory in Idaho Falls for
several years. After his fa-
ther died, Jim, Mary and
their family moved to
Stanley. They took over
the family farm south of
Ross and learned to farm
together. Jim also laid car-
pet for Springan Furniture
for many years. In all, Jim
and Mary farmed together
for 40 years and raised
three daughters.
A lifelong hunter, Jim
cared deeply about con-
serving wildlife and en-
couraging new genera-
tions of bow hunters. In
addition to hunting on the
farm, he bow hunted in
Montana, Alaska, Texas,
Georgia and many other
states, along with Canada
and a couple
once-in-a-lifetime hunting
trips to Namibia. He en-
joyed fishing Lake Saka-
kawea and deep sea fish-
ing in Cabo, Mexico with
good friends. Jim leaves
behind friends from
across the U.S. and world
who care about wildlife
and hunting as much as
he did.
If there was anything
Jim loved more than hunt-
ing, it was a good story,
especially if a prank was
involved. He claimed he
was a homebody, but
somehow he was the last
one to leave a party and
could make a few errands
stretch out all day with
conversation and coffee.
In Jim’s memory, please
share a story or a joke
with your friends and
family.
