George Hanson

George L. Hanson, 92,
Minot, died Friday, July 3,
2020, in his home.
George was born Sep-
tember 27, 1927, in Har-
vey, ND, to Gustav and
Martha (Hauge) Hanson.
He spent his youth in
Harvey and graduated
from Harvey High School
in 1944. After high
school, he attended Conye
Electrical School in Chi-
cago, IL, for a year.
George enlisted into the
US Navy on March 8,
1946. He served honor-
ably and was discharged
from active duty on De-
cember 19, 1947. He re-
turned to ND and worked
under the GI Bill.
George was united in
marriage to Arlene Thiel
on December 5, 1948, in
Kramer, ND. They lived in
various communities in
North Dakota as he trav-
eled the prairie with his
job as a construction elec-
trician. George worked for
American Electric (now
Main Electric) and
Northwestern Electric,
both Minot, during his
career. He worked on mis-
sile sites of air force bases,
powerplants, gas plants
and many schoolhouses
throughout North Dakota.
He retired in 1989.
George and Arlene
called Lake Metigoshe
home until moving to
Minot in the late 1990s.
George was a member
of Zion Lutheran Church,
IBEW Local #714, Ameri-
can Legion Post #26, Elks
Lodge, Eagle’s Aerie,
Moose Lodge and Golden
K all of Minot. He found
enjoyment in gardening,
hunting and fishing along
with some woodworking
projects.
George is survived by:
his children Bonnie
(Merle) Baisch, Minot and
Rick (Cheryl) Hanson,
Bismarck; grandchildren
Suzanne (Jason) Kenner,
Sommer Kennedy, Craig
(Melissa) Hanson, Blake
(Alyssa) Hanson and Jen-
nifer (Nick) Boehm;
great-grandchildren,
Ryleigh, Brynleigh and
Kaden Kennedy, Kendall
Kenner, Kaitlyn and Ken-
dall Hanson, Brooks Han-
son and Steele Boehm;
nieces and nephews and
brother-in-law, Melvin
(Betty) Thiel, of Rugby.
George was preceded in
death by his parents, wife
Arlene and sister Delores
Bretheim.

10:30 a.m. Wednesday,
July 8, 2010 at Thomas
Family Funeral Home
Chapel, Minot.
Interment: North Dako-
ta Veterans Cemetery, rur-
al Mandan at a later date.
