Ruth Belzer

Ruth Belzer, 83, Minot,
formerly of Velva, went to
her eternal home on Tues-
day, December 3, 2019 in
a Minot Hospital sur-
rounded by her loving
family.
Ruth was born De-
cember 5, 1935 at Minot,
ND, the daughter of Elmer
and Bertha (Buseth)
Hatlestad. She was raised
and educated at Velva and
graduated from Velva
High School in 1953.
She attended Northwest
Nazarene College at Nam-
pa, ID from 1953-54 and
later Mary College at
Bismarck.
Ruth was united in
marriage to Verne Belzer
on December 26, 1955 in
Velva. She was em-
ployed for a short time
with the City of Minot
Assessor’s office as a
stenographer and for six
months with the Velva
Drug Store. They made
their home in Cut Bank,
MT, Velva and Minot,
where along with raising
their six children, she was
employed with the Minot
Head Start program for
more than 40 years. She
retired in 2015. Verne
died April 29, 2002.
Ruth was a longtime
member of Southside
Church of the Nazarene,
Minot, where she was ac-
tive as the Church pianist
and in many other roles.
She also was a member of
the Nazarene World Mis-
sion Society, ND Associa-tion for the Education of
the Young and the TOPS
& KOPS Clubs.
Ruth enjoyed sewing,
selling toys and gifts, sew-
ing items for her children,
playing the accordion, pi-
ano and organ, along with
singing. She loved spend-
ing time with her family,
especially her grandchil-
dren and great grandchil-
dren.
Her loving family in-
cludes: children, Sid
(Denese) Belzer, Garrison,
Lamica Belzer, Minot, De-
lynn (Eddie) Fitch, Shel-
by, NC, Millicent (Scott)
Grosz, Northville, MI, Rod
(Tracey) Belzer, Garrison
and Rick (Tracy) Belzer,
Minot; 21 grandchildren,
many foster grandchildren
and 13 great grandchil-
dren; numerous nieces,
nephews and cousins.
Ruth was preceded in
death by her parents; hus-
band, Verne; grandson,
Todd Fitch; siblings, Bet-
sy Herrell, Dorothy
Michelson, Ida Hollinger,
Carl, Howard and Elmo
Hatlestad and infant sister
Ada.
Celebration of Life ser-
vice: Friday, December 6,
2019 at 2:00 p.m. in
Southside Church of the
Nazarene, located at 2220
24th Ave SE, Minot.
Interment: Rosehill
Memorial Park, Minot.
Visitation: Thursday,
December 5th from
5:00-7:00 p.m. in Thomas
Family Funeral Home,
Minot.
Memorials: preferred to
the Southside Church of
the Nazarene Building
