Phyllis Thompson
May 14, 1926 - Dec. 16, 2018
ANTLER – Phyllis El-
izabeth Thompson, 92,
Antler, went home to be
with Jesus and spend
Christmas in heaven on
Sunday, Dec. 16, 2018, at
a Mohall nursing home.
She was born May 14,
1926, near Parshall. She
was raised by Hassel and
Freda (Anderson) Peter-
son on the family farm in
the Lucky Mound area
where she attended
school and church. She
moved into Parshall for
high school and finished
in three years and lived
with a Christian family
who raised her like their
own. She graduated from
Parshall High School in
1945 and then moved into
Minot and again the Lord
provided her with a Chris-
tian family to live with
while getting her two-year
teaching certificate. She
got her first job of teach-
ing in the Bentinick
Township-Stinson
One-Room School #2 and
taught grades one through
eight for two years.
She lived with another
Christian family, the Os-
car Fossum family the
first year, then lived in
the teacherage the next
year with no running wa-
ter or electricity. The next
two years, she taught at
the Sherman Township
Two-Room School and
lived in the teacherage
with Delores (soon to be
Drangsholt). It was there
that Tommy Drangsholt
introduced his cousin,
Justin Thompson, to
Phyllis, who became the
love of his life.
Justin and Phyllis were
married on Oct. 15, 1950,
in Minot. They made their
home on the Ramstad
farmstead in Sherman the
first four years of their
marriage. They bought the
Archie Cameron farm-
stead in Antler Township
where they raised their
two daughters, Janell,
who went on to become a
nurse in Minot, and
Christine, who became a
secretary. Phyllis taught at
the Antler School a little
while, but Justin wanted
her home to help on the
farm and raise their two
daughters.
They were members of
the Bethel Lutheran
Brethren Church, rural
Antler, where she served
as the church organist for
over 50 years, the last 10
years playing the organ
and piano with her
daughter, Chris. She
taught Sunday school, Va-
cation Bible School and
was a part of the Willing
Workers ladies bible
study group. She was a
member of the Club of
Progress Homemakers,
4-H leader for many years,
served on the Farm
Bureau board, Lutheran
Brotherhood-Aid Associa-tion for Lutherans, now
called Thrivent Financial.
She raised chickens and
milked cows and sold
eggs for 21 to 35 cents a
dozen and cream for
$12.00 for 60 lbs. She
hauled it to Antler to
catch the train that went
to the Rugby Creamery
and some went to the Bot-
tineau Creamery. She
drove the grain trucks
during harvest until Chris
and Steve moved over to
Antler to help with the
farming. She then became
a grandmother and loved
to care for her five grand-
children many times. She
was a devoted wife, moth-
er, grandmother and
friend to many. Justin
passed away June 3, 2016.
Phyllis moved to the Good
Samaritan Society,
Mohall, on January 30,
2017. She made this her
home and enjoyed being
around people and ac-
tivities. She loved the
staff and the staff lovingly
took care of her and did
an excellent job.
