Man convicted of murder loses appeal

A man convicted of Class AA felony murder in North Central District in 2017 has lost an appeal to the North Dakota Supreme Court in which he asked for a reconsideration of his case. Johnny Norwood had entered Alford pleas of guilty to murder and attempted murder in connection with the Nov. 29, 2015, shooting of Rodger Falana in a downtown alley, which led to Falana’s death in a hospital. NDCF awards grants to area entities

The North Dakota Community Foundation (NDCF) has awarded $255,223 in grants from its Statewide Greatest Needs Fund to 54 organizations working to improve the quality of life for North Dakota residents. Minot man injured in crash near Larimore

LARIMORE – A 28-year-old Minot man was injured in a one-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 2, two miles north of Larimore, Wednesday, Oct. 14. According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, at about 10:57 p.m., a 2023 Ford F-150 pickup driven by the Minot man was traveling west on the highway near the Larimore exit. The pickup ran off the road, entered the median, crossed the eastbound lanes, continued into the south ditch and struck a fence and several trees. Devils Lake outlets shut down

BISMARCK – The North Dakota Department of Water Resources announced it has shut down the Devils Lake East End Outlet and West End Outlet to comply with downstream water quality constraints. The East End Outlet was shut down on Aug. 24 after operating for 102 days this year. The West End Outlet was shut down on Aug. 31 after operating for 112 days. The total combined discharge from both outlets was about 53,000 acre-feet for the 2026 operation season.
