New youth initiative will honor veterans
The Civil Air Patrol Magic City Composite Squadron and MinotWreaths.org has a new youth leadership initiative to honor veterans
According to information from the nonprofit organizations, the Civil Air Patrol Cadet Challenge, a fitness-based fundraising event, is about honoring veterans while teaching cadets leadership, responsibility and to make an effort.
The Challenge Day will be Sunday, Sept. 13, from 3-4:30 p.m. at the Minot North High School Sentinel Stadium. It case of rain, it will be rescheduled for Sept. 20.
Corporate sponsorships of teams are available to pledge veterans’ wreaths and cadets earn those wreaths by running or walking miles. For every mile the squadron completes, wreaths will be placed on that number of veterans’ graves in Rosehill Memorial Park Cemetery in Minot. Twenty-nine percent of the funds will be returned to the community to support cadet programs.
Rosehill Memorial Park is expanding its reach. Until this year, only 944 of the veterans at Rosehill have been honored with wreaths.
According to the information from the organizations, the 2026 goal will be to lay a wreath for each of the approximately 3,000 veterans at Rosehill. Corporate volunteer teams are invited to Adopt-A-Section of the cemetery for about three hours per year.
