WILLISTON — Firefighters from several fire departments responded to a fire at the Pallet Green Recycling faciity near Williston Sunday evening, May 10.
According to Williston Fire Department Chief Corey Johnson, the Williston Rural Fire Department was dispatched at 8:27 p.m. to the site in the 5100 block of 134th Avenue Northwest (County Road 9) for the report of the fire. The City of Williston Fire Department was requested at 8:49 p.m.
Firefighters with several departments in the area were called in to assist and provide equipment.
Multiple roads were blocked for the public’s safety and to allow fire apparatus to enter and exit the scene.
As of about 1 a.m., Johnson said crews were still actively working at the scene, and the fire was still active but had been significantly contained. At that time, the weather was changing and stronger winds were picking up. Due to a stronger smell of smoke, particularly in the northern portion of the city of Williston, residents were recommended to turn on their heating, ventilation and air conditioning units to recirculate air and keep windows closed to prevent smoke from being drawn into their homes or businesses.
