Discovery Center to hold summer bash, duck days

The Magic City Discovery Center is kicking off summer with its biggest celebration of the season. Families are invited to the School’s Out Summer Bash and 2nd Annual Duck Days of May on Friday, May 22, for an afternoon packed with community fun, local favorite, and exciting prizes, according to the center.

The event combines the final Day Off Discoveries session of the school year with the return of Duck Days of May, creating a family-friendly kickoff to summer break filled with hands-on activities, outdoor fun and a rubber duck race fundraiser.

From 3:30-5:30 p.m., guests can enjoy activities throughout the museum and parking lot, including baseball hat decorating, bubble play, games, and interactive experiences for all ages. Special guests from the Minot Hot Tots, Honeybees and Minot State University athletics teams will be on-site to meet families.

Local favorites Local Lemon and Misfit Minis will be serving fresh lemonade and mini donuts throughout the afternoon.

The Duck Days of May race, during which hundreds of rubber ducks will race to the finish line for a chance to win community-sponsored prizes, begins at 5 p.m. While winners do not need to be present to win, guests are encouraged to stay for the live race and prize announcements. Proceeds from the duck race support the Magic City Discovery Center’s mission;

This year’s prizes include summer adventure packages, golf outings, family entertainment experiences, Hot Tots gear and tickets, shopping gift cards, and more, including several prize packages valued at hundreds of dollars.

“Duck Days of May is one of our favorite community events because it combines fun, creativity, and giving back,” said Matthew Farnsworth, executive director at the discovery center. “Families can come celebrate the end of the school year, connect with local organizations and athletes, and support hands-on learning opportunities at the Discovery Center.”

The event is free with museum admission.

Starting at $2.99/week.
