Summer floral celebration set for Aug. 8 at Peace Garden
DUNSEITH – The Summer Floral Celebration on Saturday, Aug. 8, at the International Peace Garden will feature a full day of fun events, including the annual Handshake Across the Border, songwriting workshops, concerts, a classic car show, kids’ activities and more. This year’s Garden theme, “Celebrating Pollinators,” will be emphasized in tours, art projects and interactive experiences.
“Our Summer Floral Celebration is always a great time to see the Garden in the height of its bloom,” said Tim Chapman, Peace Garden CEO. “While every season has its beauty, the colors this time of year are spectacular. With our pollinator theme, visitors will gain a new understanding of the connections of nature that make these plants and flowers possible, and the importance of conservation and stewardship that’s at the heart of our mission.”
The songwriting workshop runs from 9-10:30 a.m. with Jim McMahon and Pat Phillips of the Peace Garden Collective at Willis Pavillon. This workshop is open to participants of all ages and all abilities. Registration is free.
The Handshake Across the Border will take place at the Upper Terrace to Cairn from 11-11:30 a.m. The Peace Garden symbolizes the open and peaceful relationship between our nations, welcoming visitors from both sides–without barriers in the longest unfortified border in the world. Gathering to shake hands across that border lets visitors participate in the long-standing friendship that’s the foundation of the Garden.
A songwriting workshop will take place from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. with Danny Savage, Jordan Eslinger and Sky Froelich of the MoonCats at Willis Pavillon. All ages and all levels of musical experience, from novice to professional, are welcome. Registration is free.
Afternoon activities include concerts by the Peace Garden Collective from 1-2:30 p.m. and MoonCats from 3:30-5 p.m., both in the Upper Terrace or Burdick Center.
Ongoing activities from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. include a classic car show, guided garden tours, a scavenger hunt and other activities for kids, hands-on craft projects with a pollinator theme, and a variety of vendors offering arts and crafts, along with options for food and beverages.
