Appointee announces campaign for PSC
Jill Kringstad
BISMARCK – Republican Jill Kringstad has announced her campaign for the North Dakota Public Service Commission, seeking to continue her work after being appointed to the position by Gov. Kelly Armstrong in January 2025.
“North Dakota’s role in national energy security, dependable utilities and strong agricultural and industrial sectors depends on stable, common-sense regulation,” Kringstad said in her announcement made Thursday, Jan. 22. “I’m running to build on the progress we’ve made — defending affordable, reliable energy, ensuring fair utility practices and maintaining strong oversight of critical infrastructure that supports our families, farms and businesses while balancing the needs of landowners and citizens of North Dakota.”
As Public Service Commissioner, Kringstad oversees portfolios including pipeline and electric transmission siting, gas economic regulation and railroad safety. She also serves as North Dakota’s liaison to the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) and the Organization of MISO States, ensuring the state’s voice is heard in regional grid and transmission planning decisions.
A native of Bismarck, Kringstad is a Certified Public Accountant with experience in both the public and private sectors. She served as an intern for U.S. Sen. John Hoeven and U.S. Rep. Rick Berg. She entered the energy industry working seasonally at Cody Oil and Gas Corp. in Bismarck for five years and as a financial services accountant and internal auditor at Basin Electric Power Cooperative. She joined the PSC in 2016 as a budget specialist, and in 2019, she was named manager of Business Operations, directing agency planning, operations and strategic initiatives.
