Community Seed Swap event set for Jan. 31
NDSU Extension-Ward County is inviting gardeners, seed savers and anyone curious about growing their own plants to join Ward County Master Gardeners at a Community Seed Swap, Saturday, Jan. 31, from 1-3 p.m. The event will be at the Ward County Extension Office, 900 13th St. SE, Minot.
This free, family-friendly gathering celebrates National Seed Swap Day, a long-standing tradition which brings people together to exchange seeds, stories and gardening knowledge. National Seed Swap Day, held annually on the last Saturday in January, serves as a reminder to gardeners that spring is on its way and marks an ideal time for preparation of starting seeds indoors. Additionally, the exchange of seeds perpetuates biodiversity throughout the community.
Whether an experienced seed saver or just getting started, the event offers a friendly place to meet fellow gardening enthusiasts and discover new varieties for the 2026 growing season.
Light refreshments will be provided, and Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer questions about seed saving, including best practices for labeling and storing seeds, as well as other gardening tips. Attendees are encouraged, but not required, to bring seeds in clearly labeled packets with plant name, variety and year collected to make swapping easier for everyone.
