Alzheimer’s classes set in December

The Alzheimer’s Association will offer a series of free virtual presentations in December.

“The Empowered Caregiver: Supporting Independence” will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 2, from 2-3:30 p.m. The class focuses on helping the person living with dementia participate in daily activities, providing the right amount of support, and balancing safety and independence while managing expectations.

“The Empowered Caregiver: Communicating Effectively” will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 9, from 2-3:30 p.m. The class teaches how dementia affects communication, including tips for communicating well with family, friends and health care professionals.

“Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia” will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 10, from noon-1 p.m. Learn about the impact of Alzheimer’s, the difference between Alzheimer’s and dementia, stages and risk factors, current research and treatments available for some symptoms and Alzheimer’s Association resources.

“The Empowered Caregiver: Responding to Dementia-Related Behavior ” will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 16, from 2:00-3:30 p.m. The class outlines how dementia can cause changes in a person’s behavior, including how a person may communicate. Learn about the possible reasons for behaviors and ways to address them, including non-medical and medical approaches.

All presentations are free and open to healthcare and caregiving professionals. Registration is required by contacting the Alzheimer’s Association Minnesota-Dakota Chapter. This project is funded through the North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services, Adult and Aging Services Section.
