Prep Cheerleading: Minot High wins state title in Game Day division

The Minot High cheerleading team added to their rich history of state titles with yet another one after competing in the North Dakota Cheer Coaches Association State Cheer Competition at the Bismarck Event Center on Saturday, Jan. 31.

The Majettes won their 10th state title in the Game Day division for their fifth consecutive winter title in the event. The Game Day routine was first introduced at the state competition in 2020 and consists of four components: band chant, situational offense of defense chant, cheer and school song or fight song.

Minot High’s state title gives them 41 titles overall between the three events at the competition. They have won the Cheer/Dance title 20 times and the Time Out title 11 times. At this year’s competition, the Majettes took second in the Cheer/Dance division and fourth in the Time Out division.

In the small-group competition, the team representing Minot Gold took fourth in the Stunt Off competition.

Individually, Averi Erck placed fourth in the all-around and was named to the all-state team.

Kinga Waliczek, Alejandra Maya-Vargas, Jackie Stevens and Kyleigh Golde were named elite seniors and Golde also was a scholarship recipient of $500.
