Burlington keeps city tax levy stable
BURLINGON — Burlington property owners should see taxes remain fairly stable for the coming year.
The Burlington City Council approved a budget Monday, Oct. 6, that does not use any of the 3% increase allowed under state law in its $447,690 levy request . The city will be able to carry over the 3% up to five years if needed to support a future budget. The levy includes $406,690 for the general and highway funds and $34,000 for recreation, with the remaining $7,000 designated for special assessments and special assessment deficiency. Along with the levy, changes in property valuation will influence the degree of change in individual property owners’ tax bills from the current year.
City Auditor Sarah Karloff said the council opted not to continue a third police officer position. The position recently became vacant. Savings from the elimination were transferred to the contingency and capital improvement portions of the 2026 budget.
Karloff said residents also will see a slight increase in garbage rates due to the city passing on an increase from the sanitation service provider.
