Air Force man arrested after high speed pursuit, crash in southeast Minot

The Minot Police Department has announced the arrest of a Minot Air Force Base man in connection with a brief high speed pursuit and crash in southeast Minot in the early morning of Thursday, Oct. 30.

According to Minot Police information, at about 1:53 a.m., MPD officers attempted to stop a gray BMW for erratic driving and operating without headlights in southwest Minot. The vehicle fled from police at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour, and police ultimately terminated pursuit.

According to the MPD’s release, the vehicle approached a roundabout at the intersection of 31st Avenue and 13th Street Southeast, failed to negotiate the turn and left the roadway. The vehicle then struck a transformer box and came to a stop.

All three occupants of the vehicle fled the scene on foot but were quickly detained by responding officers. The vehicle became engulfed in flames shortly after impact, causing a temporary power outage affecting dozens of residents in the area. Members of the Minot Fire Department responded to extinguish the fire.

The driver was identified as Christopher Isaac DeSantiago, 27, who was arrested and transported to the Ward County Detention Center.

DeSantiago was charged with fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer-risk of death or serious bodily injury, two counts of reckless endangerment, all Class C felonies; driving under the influence-second offense and refusal to submit to a chemical test-second offense, both Class B misdemeanors.

Earlier this month, DeSantiago was arrested and charged for actual physical control and refusal to submit to a chemical test after an incident in which a passenger of his vehicle allegedly threatened customers at a Minot restaurant.

The MPD also reminded the public of the ND Sober Ride program available this Halloween through the Vision Zero ND Sober Ride program. The program offers discounted Lyft rides from Oct. 31 through Nov. 1. Use code “VZHALLOWEEN25” for $10 off.
