Healthcare system begins electronic health record upgrade
Trinity Health based in Minot has initiated an 18-month project to upgrade its electronic health record system, selecting Epic Systems Corporation as its new technology provider.
Epic, which provides electronic health records for more than 2,100 hospitals and 65,000 clinics nationwide, is widely used across major U.S. health systems, including Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins, UCLA Medical Center, and Cleveland Clinic. The platform manages about 64% of patient records worldwide.
Trinity Health’s implementation of Epic is scheduled to go live on Nov. 1, 2026.
“This project reflects our efforts to modernize our technology infrastructure and enhance how we deliver care across the region,” John Kutch, president and CEO of Trinity Health, said.
The Epic platform includes a patient-facing application called MyChart, which allows users to access their health information, schedule appointments and communicate directly with care teams.
“With Epic, we anticipate a more streamlined and accessible experience for patients and providers,” Dr. Scott Knutson, chief of staff at Trinity Health, said.
Additional information on the implementation timeline will be released as the project progresses.
