Three-vehicle crash occurs near Minot

One person was seriously injured and two people received minor injuries in a three-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 52, about 10 miles southeast of Minot on Thursday.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, about 8:16 p.m., a 2021 Ford F-150 driven by Jeffrey Michalenko, 73, Bergen, was eastbound on the highway in the left lane and passing a semi. A 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier being driven by a juvenile male from Sawyer lost control while driving east on Highway 52, attempting to pass the same semi as Michalenko. The Chevrolet Cavalier slid sideways into the westbound lanes in front of a 2019 Chrysler Pacifica being driven by Earl Fink, 82, Sawyer. The Chrysler Pacifica struck the Chevrolet Cavalier on the driver’s side. Debris from the crash struck the Ford F-150.

The juvenile male received serious injuries and was transported to Trinity Hospital in Minot. Fink and passenger, Viola Fink, 81, Sawyer, received minor injuries and were also transported to Trinity Hospital. Michalenko was not injured.

Occupants of all the vehicles were wearing seat belts.

At the time of the crash the road was wet due to heavy rain. The crash remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
