Burlington man sentenced for subsequent DUI

A Burlington man has been sentenced to serve 10 days of a 366-day sentence after being accepted into Drug Court alternative sentencing.

Tanner James Brooks, 34, Burlington, pleaded guilty to one count of DUI-intoxicating liquor-fourth or subsequent offense in 15 years and preventing arrest, both Class C felonies. A third Class C felony charge of DUI-refusal-fourth or subsequent offense in 15 years was dismissed in accordance with the plea agreement.

The charges against Brooks stemmed from an arrest on Dec. 19, 2023, with proceedings ultimately coming to a head after the entry of a change of plea to guilty in North Central District Court on March 20. Judge Douglas Mattson sentenced Brooks to first serve 10 days of a one year and one day sentence in the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, with credit for three days already served.

Brooks is required to complete two years of supervised probation upon release, which includes requirements that he participate in a 24/7 sobriety program, the completion of a chemical dependency evaluation, and to successfully complete Drug Court alternative sentencing. Brooks was also assessed $2,525 in court fines and fees.
