Minot man pleads guilty at hearing
A Minot man charged with burglary and the attempted rape of a pregnant woman in October entered a guilty plea at his preliminary hearing in North Central District Court on Thursday.
Jeremiah Matogo Obir Songa, 27, Minot, represented himself at his preliminary hearing before Judge Richard Hagar. He elected to enter guilty pleas to the three charges: attempted gross sexual imposition, a Class A felony; burglary, a Class B felony; and disobedience of a judicial order, a Class A misdemeanor.
Songa was charged after an incident on Oct. 28, when police responded to a call from the victim who reported Songa kicked down her front door while she was home alone feeding her child and tried to rape her.
Songa was prevented from assaulting the victim further after the arrival of another resident of the home, who had left to go shopping. This witness began fighting Songa and provided the victim with their phone to call the authorities.
When questioned by investigators at the scene, Songa said he thought the victim wanted to have sex with him because of what she was wearing and that he had only been trying to give her a hug. It was determined that Songa also had violated an active restraining order during the incident, which had required him to maintain a 100-foot distance provision from the residence.
Hagar ordered Songa to continue to be held in the Ward County Jail while awaiting the completion of the presentence investigation and his sentencing, which will be held on March 21.
